Hello again!
We're continuing work on the
"inbound" portions of this series in which freight cars from
John's New York Central Train Layout, and Neal's Atlantic Pacific R.R. are being managed by crews on my own Kings Port Division.
Now that all of the cars in this series from the John's and Neal's layouts have arrived on mine West Mill Yard is looking pretty full...
...as is the KP&W's Williams Yard.
Crews at both yards are working to clear out some tracks!
At West Mill SW9 #8951 is moving a cut of three Penn Central RBLs to a siding for the next KP&W WiBi-4 to take to Binghamton. The three cars are headed to IBM loaded with crates.
Meanwhile, back a Kings Port a KP&W crew at Williams Yard is assembling the aforementioned WiBi-4 for dispatch to Mayfield. We'll get back to this train later.
Back at West Mill again; after moving the Penn Central RBLs the yard crew put together a Southbound Local serving Tri Mount Cement and Half Moon Wholesale Lumber Distributors. Six loaded coal hoppers from Hudson Coal and two pulpwood cars from New England are assigned to the local. Two RSD12s are powering the local today.
The local backs out of West Mill Yard.
The Alco power stops at WM tower for orders....
....and leaves town after getting clearance from the dispatcher in Kings Port.
After a short journey the Southbound Local sets out the two green MEC bulkheads loaded with pulpwood at Half Moon Wholesale Lumber Distributors.
The Southbound Local's next set out is at Tri Mount Cement
The Southbound Local arrives at the cement plant...
...with six hoppers loaded with coal from Hudson Coal.
Meanwhile, Williams Yard is getting ready to dispatch WiBi-4.
The WiBi is on the move to Mayfield with a stop at West Mill! After arriving at West Mill the WiBi-4 brakeman separates the F7A-B-A consist from the rest of the train to pick up the three PC RBLs.
The WiBi-4 then continues on its way to Binghamton.
Later, after arriving at Binghamton, the WiBi's manifest is broken up and put onto local trains. One serves the Corning Glass Co. and sets out the two PS2 hoppers from West Hills Silica Sand Mining Corp. along with the 38 foot PRR and NYC hoppers loaded with Hudson Coal to help power the plant.
Another local out of Binghamton sets out the three PC RBLs loaded with crates from Mike's Lumber (Neal's layout) and PC 160502 loaded with hardware from American Hardware (John's layout).
Returning our attention to West Mill Yard the Bloomberg Turn which serves various businesses in the Catskills is getting ready to depart. West Mill has a policy of not dispatching the Turn until its manifest is composed of at least five cars. Today's switchlist has ten cars. They are seen behind the green TP&W car in the foreground.
...ending with the two BAR bulkhead flats. These are "nonplayers"
The Turn's crew is boarding its power, for today: GP38-2 #8150
The yard's switcher tacks on Northeastern style caboose #18421. Brakeman Fingers O'Malley who usually suffers this run in a no-frills transfer caboose is over the moon with this cabin!
The Bloomberg Turn leaves West Mill while the yard switcher sets out a Morton Salt covered hopper scheduled to be picked up by the next KP&W transfer from Williams Yard to their own Mayfield Yard
An hour later after hauling this larger than usual string of cars up the Catskills, the Bloomberg Turn makes moves at Quality Fabrications and Zenith TV. First NYC boxcar #80755 is delivered empty to Quality Fabrications.
Then APRR cars #60358 & 60327 are pulled empty from Zenith.
Rock Island boxcar # 35062 is then set out empty at Zenith TV.
The Bloomberg Turn then moves over to Van Winkle Canning, Woodstock Hills Natural Soda, and the Catskill Mt. Press. The EL boxcar loaded with perishables from Empire Produce and the two empty APRR cars are set out at Van Winkle Canning
Then empty IC boxcar #30130 and PC boxcar #77407 loaded with City pallets are delivered to Woodstock Hills Natural Soda.
The last move in this part of Bloomberg's industrial area is to set out P&E boxcar #3638 loaded with Drywell Ink for the Catskill Mt. Press.
Before returning to West Mill the Turn needs to complete a little bit of work on the edge of town at Bloomberg's Agway and the Bell Pole and Lumber Company.
The two empty BAR bulkhead flats are set out at Bell Pole....
...while the Dresser Magcobar car loaded with Bentonite and the old NYC Pacemaker filled with Moore & Co. burlap bags are set out at Agway.
That's probably more than enough for today! Come back tomorrow we'll follow more action in the next installment.

Great action and interchange with the two RRs that serve this busy area of the Catskills. The freight traffic just kept moving even as the big yards were close to or beyond their capacity. Another shout out to the KPD dispatcher who kept the lines fluid and an honorable mention to the power desks of both railroads for their selections of motive power this day. A very enjoyable look at two railroads hard at work!!! Well done Ralph!!!
